Dear parents and families,

As you may know, in January, I submitted a recommendation to our Board of Education to move the 6th grades in the Memorial High School neighborhood to Memorial Junior High School to create a 6th-8th grade middle school effective in the 2020-2021 school year. At our regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the Board voted to approve this recommendation. 

With this new grade configuration, students currently attending 5th grade at Key, Grimes, Marshall, and Salk elementary schools will enter 6th grade at Memorial Middle School in 2020-2021. 

We know from research and experience that minimizing transitions supports strong academic performance and helps foster meaningful relationships with teachers and peers. This change is a continuation of our work to create consistent grade configurations district-wide, and your student will experience no more than two transitions: from 5th to 6th grade and from 8th to 9th grade.

Memorial Principal Ginger Bunnell and her team are looking forward to welcoming your child to the 6th-8th grade Memorial Middle School next year. The school will be hosting a new family open house in the early spring - look for more information about that soon! Estimados padres de familia,

Como sabrán, en enero, presenté una recomendación a nuestra Junta de Educación para trasladar los sextos grados del vecindario de Memorial High School a Memorial Junior High School para crear una escuela secundaria de sexto a octavo grado a partir del año escolar 2020-2021. En nuestra reunión del martes 21 de enero, la Junta Educativa votó para aprobar esta recomendación.

Con esta nueva configuración de grado, los estudiantes que actualmente asisten al quinto grado en Key, Grimes, Marshall y Salk Elementary Schools ingresarán al sexto grado en Memorial Middle School en 2020-2021.

Sabemos por la investigación y la experiencia que minimizar las transiciones respalda un sólido desempeño académico y ayuda a fomentar relaciones significativas con maestros y compañeros. Este cambio es una continuación de nuestro trabajo para crear configuraciones de grado consistentes en todo el distrito y su estudiante experimentará dos transiciones: del quinto grado al sexto grado y del octavo al noveno grado.

La Directora de Memorial, Ginger Bunnell y su personal esperan darle la bienvenida a los nuevos estudiantes de Memorial Middle School (6to-8vo grado) en el año escolar 2020-2021.
